The Ultimate Spring 2022 Wine Guide

by Lauren Power

With the first day of Spring behind us and temperatures (hopefully) warming up, we're bringing out all of our seasonal favourites! As the weather changes, we often gravitate towards easy-drinking wines that are lighter, floral and fruit-forward and served with a chill.

While we're not saying to put your big bold reds away until the Fall, we are saying it's time to re-introduce wines that pair well with time outside and getting together with friends.

Want to get in the Spring spirit with us? Keep reading to learn which bottles you need to add to your wine fridge this season!

Sauvignon Blanc

We love the bright citrus and tropical flavours that a New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc brings.

Our choice? The Misty Cove Estate Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, New Zealand. It is a wine lover's dream! These wine producers coined the motto "Good Wine for Good Times", and have also said they've taken the BS out of SB - both things couldn't be more true.

Figuring out your next hit dinner party dish? This Sauvignon Blanc has notes of lemon, lime, mandarin, freshly cut grass, and slight flint - go for some seafood!

Pinot Grigio

What could pair more perfectly with Springtime than Pinot Grigio?

Our go-to is AnticaVigna - expect a flavourful Pinot Grigio with notes of peaches, pears, and lime along with beautiful aromatics, fresh acidity, and minerality!

Built by the Romans in the early centuries, this winery is one of the oldest estates in the region. This particular bottle is produced using grapes grown on 25-year-old vines.

Rosé

Could we even write a blog post about Spring wines without including a Rosé?! While French Rosés are usually the popular choice (and we love them!), why not try out a different region this season?

Go for Dos Fincas Malbec Rosé from Wines of Carlos Basso! From Argentina, this wine has bright cherry colours, mixed with the scents of fresh fruits, and vanilla. It's a total crowd pleaser.

Franciacorta

It wouldn't be Spring without some bubbly! Love your classic Prosecco and Champagne, but want to give something else a try? Check out Franciacorta!

Our pick? La Montina Franciacorta Brut DOCG, an elegant, fresh, and versatile sparkling, with both fruity and floral notes. Made of two different vintages, and aged in bottle for at least 24 months, this sparkling is the perfect companion for any Springtime celebrations!

Dolcetto

Not ready to let go of Reds for the Springtime? You definitely don't have to! One of our favourites going into the warmer weather is Cascina Adelaide Dolcetto di Diano d’Alba DOCG.

With smooth tannins, menthol hints, and an unexpected minerality, this wine has notes of cherry, red currant, violet, and iris flowers. Planning on sitting out in the sunshine with friends this weekend? This bottle pairs amazingly with salamis and fresh cheeses - so get out your favourite charcuterie board!
